🔍 Model Background
The Mercury 115 HP Four Stroke EFI outboard (2001–2005) marked a major milestone in Mercury’s transition from 2-stroke to 4-stroke technology. Developed in partnership with Yamaha during this era, this model was based on a 1.7L inline-4 four-stroke powerhead and featured a multi-port Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system, offering smoother operation, improved fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions compared to its 2-stroke predecessors.
Ideal for pontoons, bay boats, and freshwater fishing rigs, the 115 EFI Four Stroke gained popularity for its quiet idle, low maintenance requirements, and overall reliability. It featured mechanical throttle and shift controls, oil-bathed camshafts, and a well-balanced inline-4 layout that delivered smooth midrange torque without the weight of a V6.
Though eventually replaced by Mercury’s in-house 2.1L Four Stroke platform in 2006, the 2001–2005 115 EFI remains a respected and well-supported engine in the used market. Many are still in active service today thanks to their solid build quality, strong parts availability, and reputation for dependable performance.
