🔍 Model Background

The Suzuki LS 650 Savage (1986–2009) was a minimalist, single-cylinder cruiser built for riders seeking a lightweight, low-slung bike with timeless styling and simple mechanics. It became a cult favorite over its long production run thanks to its thumper engine, low seat height, and relaxed riding position—ideal for beginners and urban cruisers alike.

At its core was a distinctive 652cc air-cooled 4-stroke SOHC single-cylinder engine with a balancer shaft to reduce vibration. Known for its torquey low-end power and signature exhaust note, the engine was mated to a 5-speed transmission and belt final drive, offering smooth operation with minimal maintenance.

The LS 650 featured a lightweight steel frame, narrow profile, and classic cruiser geometry. A front disc and rear drum brake setup, coupled with mid-mounted foot controls and pullback handlebars, gave it a relaxed and approachable feel on the road. Its low seat height (around 27 inches) made it particularly appealing to shorter riders and beginners.

While it didn’t boast high horsepower or advanced tech, the Savage was beloved for its simplicity, reliability, and retro cruiser charm. In 2004, it was rebranded in some markets as the Boulevard S40, but remained mechanically unchanged. Whether called the LS 650 or S40, it holds a special place as one of Suzuki’s most accessible and iconic cruisers.
